AB OBJECTIVES: To increase the awareness of doctors and health care
providers about living with HIV/AIDS through the personal experiences of
People Living With HIV/AIDS. METHODS: People with HIV/AIDS discuss their
personal experiences with groups of doctors and other health care
providers to convey appropriate and inappropriate ways of treating and
relating to patients with the virus. Discussions show human sides to
HIV/AIDS and educate doctors and health care providers about services
that People Living with HIV or AIDS find beneficial. RESULTS: Evaluation
sheets completed by doctors and health care providers demonstrate that
they are more sensitive to the needs of People Living With HIV/AIDS and,
therefore, are able to provide better quality of care. CONCLUSION: By
articulating their needs and showing human sides to HIV/AIDS, people
living with the virus are able to educate doctors and health care
providers about appropriate and inappropriate ways of treating and
liaising with People with HIV or AIDS.
